Are Slurred Speech And Excessive Sleepiness Normal While On Pain Medications?

Girlfreind monday broke hip , tue surgery, wed. drugs for pain but ok, thur. slurring speech, sleeping every 4 sec., face slag durring sleep, fri. same, today bit more aware -headach -aphasia; thought her phone was her keys. Ithink stroke doc says pain meds Please help

Yes. Excessive sleep can be caused by drugs given to reduce pain such as diazepam (valium) especially if the pain is from muscle and muscle relaxant will releave the pain.
As the drug causes the muscle to relax to reduce pain it also caused sleep.
some pain liners also have some sleeping affects like tramadol. or opoites which are used in severe pain.
The most important thing is to confirm with the doctor which drug is being used.
