Are There Any Foods Known To Help Lower BP ?

My doc has been monitoring my blood pressure because over the last year my first number has been around 140. I am not overweight, but have gained about 20-30 pounds over the last couple years. My doc says I need to lose 20 pounds, and wants me to do this before prescribing meds (I am young to be having blood pressure issues). I am cutting my calorie intake and excercising more, but was wondering if there wwere specific foods known to help reduce blood pressure. My resting heart rate is awesome, as is my cholesterol.

Just keep an eye on your sodium intake, that is the number one thing that can affect blood pressure. They say we should be at 2,000-3,000mg/day. Pizzas, Pre-packaged foods, mexican food, and frozen/canned foods are all culprits have high sodium. My husband is only 37 yrs. old and just found out he has a heart condition and high blood pressure and I have learned alot since then. He used to eat one pizza to himself in one sitting. Guess what, there is 600-800mg of sodium per slice! Meat pies that you stick in the oven, about 1,400! It's hard but it's helped me too, good luck!
