Are There Any Remedies Or Medicines That Will Help In Reducing The Eye Power In A Child?

Hello Dr, My 2.8 yr old son was diagonised with spherical power of +2.5 in both his eyes & has been prescribed constant wear of glasses. Want to know how we can ensure that a kid of his age keeps the glasses on all the time, will the power decrease if glasses are worn & increase if glasses are not worn now. Are there any remedies or medicines that will help in reducing the power. What precautions have to be taken to ensure that power does not increase or reduces. Thank you

I am really sorry that your son is having to face these problems. You should have glasses with a tie at the back so that he cannot remove them. (Of course, once he is sleepy or has gone to sleep, you can remove them for the entire night). There is no truth in the belief that if you keep the glasses on, the number will reduce. In fact, if his eye is developing a problem that will cause his number to increase, even his wearing the glasses continuously cannot prevent this from happening.

There is nothing that you can do to ensure that these changes do not happen. Your ophthalmologist is the best person to take counsel from. He should check the child's lens and the entire eye to determine how the future will go. I would advise you to continue following his advice and to never neglect your son's eyes, as neglected error of refraction will affect his learning at school, his brain development and all aspects of his life.

Best wishes.
