Are There Any Side Effects For Taking Epitril For Depression?
Taking Epitril 0.5mg two tablets a day to treat depression as prescribed since last about 3 years. Is there side effects in this. Further, initially used to take Nexito 10mg a day but now stopped and rarely whenever feel depressed take this as prescribed., Need advice and how to stop these, and any side effects..
Epitril is Clonazepam which is a Benzodiazepine. It is a quick acting medicine which gives you relief from anxiety and associated depression. But be careful as you can get addicted to it. Nexito on the other hand is a SSRI which is an anti-depressant. It is slower to act and have to be taken for a period of 6 months or so. It is safe and does not lead to addiction.
You should eat a healthy wholesome diet, exercise, practise stress management like yoga or Dr. Jacobson's relaxation technique to be able to manage your day to day stress and anxiety. Then you may be able to taper and stop your medicines. Don't stop them abruptly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Noble Zachariah, Internal Medicine Specialist
