Are There Any Side Effects Of Long Term Intake Of Nexium 40 Mg?

I was diagnosed with GERD, gastritis, IBS 10 years ago. I have been on/off ppi meds for the last 8 years. Recently did an egd w/biopsies (3). after reviewing biopsies my GI doc thinks I have barretts espohogus although the biopsies did not prove it . GI doc told me to stay on ppi s, modify diet etc. My question is this: I suspect side effects from the long term daily ppi s (40 mg Nexium daily). At this point I have not sent biopsies to another lab for a 2nd opinion. My symptoms continue- are not improving (burning, inflammation in upper and lower gi). What should I do (I also have kidney cysts/stones but no associated acute pain or kidney disease diagnosed yet. also have prostate/bladder problems but no disease detected there yet (am on rapaflo at the moment)

Hello
Thank for choosing HCM
I appreciate your concern, if this is the GERD then it needs to be managed with PPI and best drug of choice would Omeprazole 40 mg with Domperidone 20 mg both the drugs needs to be taken at evening time, because stomach acid secretion is more at evening time therapy should continue for six weeks, infection also needs to be ruled out, long term administration of PPI could cause the achlorhydria (Effects noted in few cases) other given medical history are nothing to take any thing with this, but any drug history like analgesic could matters, hope this information helps.
