Are There Any Side Effects Of Taking Norethisterone During And After Periods?

Hi I just went to the doctor for some norethisterone as Im going on holiday. He has advised me not to take them as I may be pregnant, however he recommended I try taking them from the first day of my period instead to shorten and lighten the bleed. All I am querying is whether this will make me bleed again when my period stops? thanks
