Are White Stripes Of White Matter On An MRI Report Symptom Of Brain Deterioration?

I just had my second MRI for white brain matter disease. The tech let me see the scans and I now have long white strips of white matter where before I only had a few circles on the left side and a few on the right side of my brain. Am I deteriorating?

Hi,

I think you are writing about T2 FLAIR white matter hyperintensities. These changes are due to many causes including aging, vascular causes, demyelination causes, etc. It can show the progress of a condition.

However, your old and new MRI scan needs to be carefully compared to tell the differences.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Vivek Chail, Radiologist
