Are Worsening Urinary Symptoms After Urination And Water Exposure Normal While Being Treated For Ureaplasma?
Hello, I am currently being treated for ureaplasma, however I notice my symptoms (frequent urge to urinate, however I can hold my bladder, pain usually after urinating but no pain otherwise) are worse after urinating and after being in water. Can you please let me know if this is normal?
Overgrowth of ureaplasma urealyticum, irritate the urinary and genital tract. The inflamed tissue of the urinary tract due to ureaplasma infection, get further irritated causing burning and pain during and after urinating. Continue taking the prescribed medicines antibiotics, as symptoms take time to settle because the tissue needs to heal from inflammation.
It should get better as you continue to take medicines. Take adequate water. Avoid swimming pools as the chemical in water may trigger the symptoms. If symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, inform the local doctor as you will need to be re-examined. In such a case you are advised to get a repeat urine culture and repeat routine urine test done to check resistance or other infections.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr Nupur K., General & Family Physician
