Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Arthritis Issue, Pain In Left Groin, Buttock. What Can Be Done?
With left groin pain and pain traveling to my left buttock, I consulted my internist to determine a course of action. X-rays showed no hip abnormalities (even though feet, knees and hands display advanced arthritis ), but a spot on the spine area motivated her to refer me to a group of neurosurgeons that are unavailable until late Oct. I am a patient of a large orthopedics practice and feel I d like to stay with that organization. Would I be making a bad decision to arrange an appointment with the ortho practice at this time? It s likely that physical therapy will be involved and coordinated with arthritis issues. Your guidance is appreciated. Dorothy
Pain in the groin radiating into buttock could be due to Hip pathology or a problem in the lumbar spine. So, it makes sense to consult an orthopedic surgeon initially for a detailed evaluation and determine the underlying cause of your symptoms.
An MRI scan of the Hip joint is needed to establish any soft tissue pathology in and around the hip joint area that is causing you symptoms.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
