Baby Had Fever, Gave Meftal P. Any Side Effects?
on 30/08/12 we gave calpol5 ml at 5.30pm to my 13 months boy. At 7pm has fever ,103.5 , we gave meftal p 2.5ml . kid had no fever, Then at 11.30 we again gave calpol 5 ml , again for safe side we gave meftal p 2.5ml at 2.30 am ..fever 98 i want to ask is it ok as fever wasd only 98 to give meftal p & will there be any side effects , & how to take care now

Hi welcome to Health care magic forum, One should not take self decissions regarding treatment of kids. For children or adults there should be at least 4to 5 hours of gap between giving antipyretics, if there is more fever in between sponging with ice water, if there is rigour with ordinary water.
Only anti pyretics wont solve the problem, some more drugs are to be given . Children should always be taken to doctor after first aid at home, it not the sole treatment.
Any how your kid is safe till now , means no harm but should not be repeated. When the drugs effect ceases he may get fever again, so i advise you to consult a pediatrition for diagnosis and treatment . thanks for calling.

It seems that he is suffering from some sort of infection.It may be bacterial or viral cause.YOu should consult the doctor/paediatrician for the prescription antibiotics like sptran, augmentin etc. and start the timely treatment.
The fever should be conrolled with syp. calpol or cold sponging if needed.
The blood counts, chest x-ray may be done as well to rule out pneumonia.

You can use meftal-p for high grade fever. But first try to control temp. by tepid sponging only if it is less than 100.4, for temp. more than 100.4 upto 102 use paracetamol. Tepid sponging works in all grades of fever. Consult your doctor for evaluation of cause of the fever.
