Baby Having Fever, Diarrhoea. Heart Enlarged. Suggestions?
my grandson just got back from hospital, was running a fever and has had diareha for a few weeks. we have had him there a few times. but my daughter told me that they took and ex-ray and found that his heart is very large. he is one years old. I have been trying to find some info online and don't seem to know where to look.
Dear sir ,More ellborated history is required to explain you better. Any how history of fever and recurrent hospitalisation along with Enlarged heart (cardiomegally) in the Xray all point for further evaluation of the child.
Please consult pediatric cardiologist,He may investigate the child in detail like CBC,ESR, ASO titre. Color doppler echcardiography will be quite informative in terms of size and function of the heart. He may also rule out inflammation of heart muscle (carditis).
Occasionally enlarged Thymus shadow (especially in children) also causes lot of confusion in terms of cardiomegally. This should also be ruled out.

Baby Having Fever, Diarrhoea. Heart Enlarged. Suggestions?
Hi, Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic. Enlarged heart in children is due to some underlying heart problems. But the X ray report needs professional reading by a radiologist whether the heart is enlarged or not. Congenital heart problems, anemia, and some infections, infiltrations of heart muscle will lead to the enlarged heart. 2D Echo will rule out the structural causes for the enlarged heart. I advise you to consult the pediatrician for clinical examination and investigation with 2D Echo. Hope I have answered your query. Regards.
