Baby Having Loose Motions, Vomitting. Prescribed Medicines. Loose Motions Persists. See The Doctor?
hi, my daughter completed 10 months this 19th. v travelled bangalore last week. she had vomit and loose motion last week. doctor prescribed ondem and g norm for 3 days. its now since 4 days i have completed the course of medicine. but stil loose motion is continuing 3-4 times a day. should i consult my doctor again or will it settle by itself.

From the description of your baby's symptoms, there are two possibilities. One could be that the infection is still persisting. The second possibility is that the antibiotic itself can cause diarrhea. The antibiotic not only kills the disease-causing bacteria, but also the healthy bacteria in the gut, and this can result in loose stools.
Since, she has completed a full course of antibiotics and she doesnt have fever or vomiting, I think it would be okay to wait and observe. I would suggest that you give her ORS and fluids frequently and ensure that her oral intake is good.

Your child is having gastreenteritis.
Vomitings will subside immediately with medication but loose motions will take time to decrease.
Give probiotic, continue to give sips of oral rehydrating solutions like Pedialyte, lemon water, dal water to prevent dehydration.
Monitor her hydration status by her activity, oral cavity moisture and her urine output.
Zinc supplementation also helpful to decrease the water content of stool.
Consult Pediatrician again if loose stools are persisiting or any signs of dehydration present.
