Back Problem, Over Weight, Visiting Osteopath. What To Do?

My husband is now 52 and over the last couple of years his stomach has grown quite a lot but he hasn t put any weight on. He suffers increasingly with back problems, especially when waking in the mornings, for which he is visiting an osteopth regularly. What exercises are the best to reduce his stomach size that won t harm his back?
