hi,
thank you for your query.
continuous bleeding of this duration is NOT normal.it is called
Dysfunctional Uterine bleeding or DUB.When bleeding is not caused by your menstrual cycle, it is called abnormal or dysfunctional uterine bleeding. This is the most common cause of
abnormal vaginal bleeding during a woman's childbearing years.
This occurs when the complex
hormonal processes of the menstrual cycle are interrupted, resulting in
estrogen and
progesterone levels that are out of balance,
excessive vaginal bleeding may occur.
The diagnosis of dysfunctional uterine bleeding is a diagnosis of exclusion, which means that all other causes for the bleeding (including trauma, tumors, or diseases) have been looked for and determined not to be the cause of the bleeding.
the most common causes for such prolonged bleeding are-
1.fibroids
2.polyp
3.thyroid dysfunction
4.inherited bleeding disorders
5.Adenomyosis
1.i would recommend you to take Primolut-N stat.
2.start your daughter on OCPs.this will regularise the hormones and stop the bleeding.
and then get an
ultrasound done asap.this will give us a clear picture about the uterine condition .also i would ask you to get a complete blood picture done.this will rule out the blood disorders.your OB/GYN might advise you to get an D/C done.
its is a common condition and hence not a need to worry.
just follow the above tips.
thank you
wishing you good health
