Bitten By A Dog, Bruise Formed, No Bleeding Or Open Wound. Anti-rabies Vaccine Needed?
my neighbor s son was bitten by our dog which had a vaccine shot two years ago.the child only got minor bite.no open wound,no blood ,only bruise .actually,he was only bitten on his shorts, and there s no cut on his shorts.should i need to take him to the doctor to have the anti- rabies vaccine?how many shots are needed? thank you so much!
Don't hesitate to give antirabies vaccination to the child.
The child should recieve anti rabies vaccination as there is dog bite and bruise.
Rabies vaccine is a safer vaccine and provides complete protection if it is taken for complete 5 doses.
The schedule is to take 5 injections on 0, 3, 7, 14, and 28 days.
Observe the dog for any abnormailty for 10 days from the date of bite and if the dog is healthy even after 10 days, the remainig 2 doses of vaccine can be with stopped after the advise of your Pediatrician.
Therefore I advise you to consult your Pediatrician for the advise and vaccination against rabies.
Yes,the child needs immunization with anti-rabies vaccine and tetanus toxoid injection.Hence visit to the doctor for immunization and observe the dog for 10 days for symptoms of rabies.
He should be given total 5 injections of anti-rabies vaccine on day 0,3,7,14 and 28 and one TT injection if he has not received booster dose in last 5-10 years.
Though the risk of rabies infection is very less in this case as there was no direct with the saliva of dog but rabies is a deadly infection once someone gets it mortality is 100%. Hence it is better to go for immunization.
Also the dog was immunized 2 years back means has is no protection from rabies infection as rabies vaccine should be given annually.
Though there will be controversies in vaccination in this case but i would prefer to go for vaccination as it comes category 2 of dog bite.
