I ve got bitten by a stray dog yesterday, i went to the nearby hospital and got a Anti rabies vaccine dose 1, since the bite was quite deep the doctor referred me to another hospital to take a Immunoglobulin injection . but the doctors in that hospital did not want to give me the injection cause of my age and weight.so,i haven t got the immunoglobulin injection, will this cause any harm? please tell me if i need to follow a diet for the dog bite? thankyou ..
Hi Caroline,
There is no specific diet to be followed for a case of dog bite.. the best thing to do now is get yourself fully vaccinated at given dates without missing any doses which usually depends on the local regimen used ( doses given- 0/3rd/7th/14th/28th/90th days. o being dose on the day of bite, 6th dose being an optional dose, preferred if bite is severe).. the severity of the bite apart from the depth also depends on the site of bite or as we call it class 3 / category III bite which includes single / multiple bites with skin puncture , bleeding or a wound contaminated by dog saliva.. rabies immunoglobulin RIG) is indicated if that is the case.. there are two types of RiG human and equine.. human is preferred form of RIG.. also dog needs to be observed for 10 days from the bite for any signs of rabies.. in case that is not possible and your doctor thinks that the wound is quit deep then please go and request again.. RIG is best given within 7 days of bite following which the use diminishes.. there is no age based / weight based restrictions for RIG..
