Blister On Newborn Baby's Back, What It Could Be ?

my brother just had a new born baby and the baby was born with a blister on his back and it opened up. They are saying it is covering the whole back and it is deep. What could this be? They are in Africa right now and I just heard over the phone.

Hi Welcome to Health Care Magic......
I would recommend the baby to have a neonatologist consultation. The blister what you are describing looks like a meningocele.
Meningocele is a thin menbrane covered fluctuant swelling present in the midline over the back in the lower aspect, looks like a large fluid filled blister.
Baby needs a thorough evaluation of his lower lumbar part of spinal cord and his limb functions.
I find this answer helpful
