Bloating And Gas, Pain Inferior To Right Lateral Rib Cage, Had Strong Hiccups Week Ago. Any Ideas?

For the past few days, I have had a lot of bloating and gas, as well as significant pain just inferior to my right lateral rib cage. Although the pain is fairly constant, it becomes much sharper right near the end of my inspiration, and is more pronounced with a deep breathe. For almost a week prior to this, I noticed I was having frequent strong hiccups but that seems to be better now. Any possible ideas as to what could be causing this?

Hello,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.

From your Query i suspect you may have Gastroesophageal reflux disease or Cholecystitis or Gall stones.

Hiccups could be due to irritation of the vagus or phrenic nerve supplying the stomach and esophagus and diaphragm by Gastroesophageal reflux.

Bloating and gas is due to excess air which you swallow while eating, chewing, etc.
I turn reflux cause belching and to clear the refluxed acid and materials you may swallow excess air.
This may lead to belching and gas.

In addition to GERD you may have H.Pylori infection.

Symptoms you experienced may also be due to gallstones or Cholecystitis.

Better to do the following investigations Ultrasound abdomen, Urease test for H.Pylori, upper Gi endoscopy, etc..

Pantoprazole and domperidone can be given if it is GERD.
Antibiotics can be added if you have H.Pylori infection.
If you are a smoker and alcoholic, Avoid both the habit.

As they may aggravate GERD.

If the cause to be in Gall bladder, MRI may be needed.

Hope this helps.
Take care.

Regards,
Dr.Manjeth
