Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a very healthy 23 Year old female, i am very careless with my diet I eat what I want and when I want it, lots of candy and I mainly drink water an occasional soda every once in a while. I started having blood in my stool and it was bright, my mother in law was a nurse and checked for hemorrhoids and had no signs of them I haven t had blood in my stool since the 9th of this month and since then I have been feeling sick like stomach pains and feeling naussiated but never throw up, so whenever I eat the pains get worse and I immediately have to make a bowel movement , any ideas what this might be?
First of all some words about hemorrhoids. There are IV stages of hemorrhoids and can be visible outside only in III and IV stage. All other stages are invisible from outside and can not be palpated with finger if there is no thrombus. So your mother in law were not able to rule hemorrhoids out. It can be only done during the colonoscopy or during the surgery when muscles get relaxed so the hemorrhoids can be visible. And the hemorrhoids are the most often source of fresh blood in the stool. Such blood appears on the surface of the stool (and it is not mixed with).
Your symptoms sounds more like peptic ulcer or gallstones and the blood in stool might be not related to this diseases.
It is advisable for you to have some diagnostics and start with abdominal ultrasound, full blood work and upper GI endoscopy. If no findings, colonoscopy should be performed as well.
Hope this will help.
Regards.
