Hey,I am 21 year old.I found blood in my stool for the first on 24th Jan 2013.Again I found the same on Feb 12th and April 8th.Blood which I found was on the surface of stool and also bright red.Since then I started drinking so much water and included fibers in my diet. After that I did not find blood in my stool, but now I feel itching and burning sensation in the anal area. Also I can feel passage of gas frequently. Is that the symptoms of colon cancer??I have not consulted any doctor so far. Please help me.

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
With the available describes symptoms, there appears to be high possibility of decreased gastrointestinal motility.
Persisting constipation may cause injury to colon mucosa with blood loss in stools.
Other possibility could be inflammatory bowel disease and colon cancer.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist/ general surgeon and should go for thorough check up.
You should also go for complete blood count, blood sugar, serum electrolytes, and thyroid profile.
You should take plenty of water, high fibre diet and laxatives containing lactitol and isapgula.
You should perform increased physical activity to maintain gastrointestinal mobility.
You should also go for colonoscopy for better clarification of lower gastrointestinal tract.
You should also take proton pump inhibitors along with prokinetics.
Take care,

Hi,
Blood in the stools is always a serious thing as it mean a lot of things like haemrrhoids, cancer, anal fissure or intestinal bleeding.
As such to get a check up from a doctor would be the best thing you can do right now, as he can run some tests and give you a physical as well. From that once we know what the cause is we can start to treat it.
I hope this answered your question.
