Blood In Stool, Stomach Feeling Gassy, Sleeplessness, Body Pain, Doing Regular Workout. Suggestions?

I found bright red blood in my stool (this isn't the first time) -- additionally, I have not been able to get a full nights sleep (wake up at least once almost like clock work -- between 2a and 4a) -- and my body hurts (joint, lower back and neck pain). I work out regularly (go to a gym called Kosama -- it's a total body fitness center). I am 5' 7" tall and weigh about 230lbs. Additionally, my stomach has been feeling very gassy -- if you will...

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
Do you have vomiting/ fever/ increased urge to use washroom/ watery shit?
With the available described symptoms, there could be possibility of Acute bacterial gastroenteritis.
Presence of excessive gas formation, blood in stool and joint ache suggests the diagnosis.
Other possibilities could be Inflammatory bowel disease; crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist/ gastroenterologist and should go for thorough check up.
You should also go for complete blood count, blood sugar, serum electrolytes, and thyroid profile.
You should take complete antibiotic therapy, antispasmodics, probiotics, hemostatic, antipyretics, if needed.
Take soft diet along with yogurt and banana.
Avoid milk and all milk related products.
Take care,

Hello. You have differents symptoms and signs that initially are not related.
Bright Red blood in depositions many times it is caused by anal o perianal pathologies(for example anal
fissure, hemorrhoids)or difficulty in the deposition but too is a sign of another pathologies(lower digestive tract). You must go to your doctor,he will examine you and request,if he deems it necessary,a colonoscopy.Too He will examine you about widespread body pain(for example to rule out reumatics
pathologies) and will make a questionnaire about your sleep and life habits(to know if
lack of sleep is primary or secondary to anxiety or depression) .I wish you good health.

Pathologist and Microbiologist Dr. Shailja Puri's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,

Blood in stools can be present due to a number of causes, like infection, piles, bleeding lesion in the intestine, injury to anal skin, etc.
You need to consult a surgeon for clinical examination.
Any injury or piles can be identifies on examination.
A stool examination will also help in case of infections.
If the stool examination is normal and no external lesion is identified, sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy can be done to look for any lesion in the lower intestinal tract.

Body pains can be due to a number of causes but anemia causing fatigue is one of the causes. Blood loss can cause anemia.

Fullness, bloating, gas in abdomen can be due to regurgitation. You can tale proton pump inhibitors for this problem.

Thanks and take care.
Dr Shailja P Wahal

A complete hemogram should also be done.
