Blood In Urine, Painful Urination. Overweight. What Could It Be?

I had a very full bladder. I coughed while urinating. Immediately felt sharp pain in the head of my penis and noticed bright red blood in the stream. The pain lasted a few minutes and now is gone. It felt like I cut or ripped something in the head of my penis. Haven't gone again yet but now in scared. I'm 48 and overweight. What could it be?

Urologist 's  Response
Hello
Thanks for your query.Based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have painful hematuria. This could be due to many reasons infection in the urinary system or due to stone in Urethra or Bladder.

Please consult qualified Urologist for detail clinical evaluation ,You need to get following investigations like
1) Plain X-ray of the abdomen for KUB (Kidney,Ureter , and Bladder) to rule out presence of urinary stone.
2) Routine Urine test
3) Ultrasound scanning of the abdomen to rule out any other cause of bleeding.
The further treatment will depend upon the findings of abve investigations.
