Broke Fifth Metastratal Bone And Using Crutches. Foot And Fingers Numb. Should I Go Back To The Doctor?
I broke my 5th metatarsal bone 18 days ago. I have been resting with my foot up and using crutches. I have an ortho cast. My concern is that my big toe and the one next to it are numb all the time and sometimes the whole bottom of my foot is numb. I loosen the cast and keep it elevated but it doesn t help. Should I go back to the doctor again? Anything else you recommend? Otherwise it s really not painful. Just the odd stabbing pain around the area of the break. I only take meds for pain/swelling at bedtime.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for writing to us Numbness in foot and toes could occur due to injury to superficial nerve fibres or due to swelling itself. Do not worry too much. Elevate your limb. It will go off gradually as the healing occurs. Hope this helps you. Let me know if you have any more concern.
