Broke Right Wrist, Plate Put In. Still Hurts. What Is The Problem ?
2 years ago I broke my right wrist, had a plate put in and everything is perfect. 4 months ago I broker left wrist and had the same procedure but My wrist still hurts and I am going to PT . They are using ultr sound... I'm not getting the least bit better... maybe worse. The physical therapist asked me if I have metal allergies and I told her I did, she said to be sure to tell my surgeon that. Could that actually be my problem? Why not the other wrist?
Pain in the wrist after internal fixation of plate and screws may be due to loosening of screws or improper fixation of plate and screws.
It may also be due to nerve compression by the plates and screws or tendon injuries. It is very difficult to fix the fracture in the wrist even with plate and screws. Because wrist bones are small and if it get broken, full recovery is usually not possible. Some times times it results in nonunion or malunion.
So better follow physiotherapist advice and do not disturb the fracture. Wait for 2 or 3 months and confirm whether the fracture are united or not by X-ray with the help of orthopedician.
If the fracture is united you can remove the Plate and screws.
Hope this helps. Take care. Regards, Dr.Manjeth
