Broken Collar Bone Healed. Experiencing Pain In Shoulder And Neck, Relief With Hot Massages

I had a broken collar bone on left side. After about a year, it has healed it seems and I have regained all use. Now I have been experiencing pain in my right shoulder between my neck and shoulder and in this area, it feels like the muscle has shrank. You can actually feel bone and my other shoulder (the original break) has plenty of muscle. The pain subsides a little when my daughter puts icey hot and massages it. Not sure what could be wrong.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.
Clavicle is the only horizontal bone in our body. The management of clavicular fracture is to apply a figure of 8 bandage at the shoulder and allow it to heal.
Usually it heals well. Malunion is very common in the healing process.
Surgery for clavicular fractures is advisable in the following conditions:
- fragments are protruding or tenting your skin.
- painful, ununited fracture of the clavicle(non union)
- any blood vessel, nerve injury or sudden difficulty in breathing
- fracture of a diseased clavicle
- clavicle fracture with a wound over the overlying skin
- fracture of the extreme end of the clavicle.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
