Broken Metatarsal In The Right Foot. On Plaster Cast. How Much Weight Can Apply? Ca I Walk?
Hi. I broke my 5th metatarsal on my right foot onda 7th. Im not sure where exactly. I then had a plaster cast on for 5 days then was given an aircast i wasnt told how to use it or how much weight i need to put on it. So i came to another doctor and they advised me back on a plaster cast but i didnt like it so i kept the air cast. What can i do for faster healing? When shall put weight on it? During the day it gets swollen but inda morning its fine. And when i do try put weight while inda aircast i have no pain at all. Is it better to walk around or just to rest? Please get back to me. Thanks.
Hello, If you have a broken metatarsal and not willing to go for a plaster cast, you must be careful for a while. Generally fractures take upto 6 weeks for the primary healing and upto 3 - 6 months for the bones to get back strength. Under such a situation I would suggest you to put your body weight on your heel and not on the forefoot region. Please take smaller steps. Weight bearing on forefoot cant be started very slowly after your x ray shows signs of healing and callus formation has started.
