Bruise On Leg After Fall, Leg Pain, Hurts To Walk. Muscle Cramp?

I fell about a month ago and had a really bad bruise on my leg. The bruise is gone now but about a week ago I started having really bad pain in my leg. It sort of feels like a muscle cramp but it has been constant. It especially hurts when I walk. I was wondering if it could just be a cramp or something more serious like a blood clot.

Hello,
You fell one month ago and had bruises, which is gone now. 3 weeks later for the fall you developed pain. Usually muscle cramps/ sprain may produce pain from the very beginning of fall and you might not have able to walk properly. As you developed severe pain 3 weeks after the fall - most probably it may be due to an infected hematoma.
Have a clinical examination and if necessary X-Ray/echo scan to arrive at a proper diagnosis and treatment.
Best wishes.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Your presentation of symptoms in the description doesn't fit into one diagnosis.

A muscle cramp will not hurt you in resting position. It only produces pain during movements involving that muscle. So pain in muscle cramp is not present constantly.

Whereas in DVT (deep vein thrombosis), pain may be present constantly. It is often associated with tense swelling of the entire leg, local rise of temparature over the affected leg, redness may be present at times.

So I suggest you to approach your treating doctor for a detailed evaluation and management.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
