Bump On Head, Applied Ice. Black Eye Now. Will It Heal?

Hi. Just came across your website as was looking to get information about a bump to the head which I received yesterday. I walked right into a pole in a canteen where I was working. It rose the size of a tomato within seconds and was quite sore. Today however, after applying ice all afternoon, the swelling has gone down a bit but it is extending more now towards my right eye and is getting very black. Should I go and get it checked out or will it just be ok and heal up? My Mum is concerned about the congealed blood inside the skin etc.. Thank you for your reply. Becky.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting Healthcare magic.

First of all, I wish to reassure you that your symptoms do not suggest any serious internal brain injury.

Your symptoms are suggestive of scalp hematoma (bleeding under the skin). It would gradually resolve on its own, however, it may take 10-14 days for complete healing.

If it is painful, you may take analgesics such as ibuprofen.

As of now, there is no need to go to a doctor.
