Bump On Spine, Water When Squeezed, Bruise. Should I Get It Checked?

I have a round bump on my back, actually in the lower middle part basically on my spine. I'm 50. In Fair health. Its not a bite or an ingrown hair. It doesn't itch or hurt. If I leave it alone it turns back to normal skin color but its the size of a golf ball and protrudes a half inch from my back. I've tried to lance it. Squeeze it. Nothing comes out but water, it bruises , then it goes back to the normal skin color, only its a lump. Do I need to have it looked at or removed?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
I went through your problems. Because of its location and the way you detail it it look like nerve root cysts otherwise called as Tarlov cysts. This occurs due to the dilatation of nerve sheath. The collection inside this cyst is watery like Cerebro Spinal Fluid (CSF). The other diagnosis are herniated discs, ruptured disc and degenerative disc disease. Generally there may Symptoms like local and radiating pain or there may not be any symtoms at all.
Confirm it by MRI scan
Treatment is Aspiration of the fluid and injection of fibrin glue which increases the clotting and preventing the leakage point.
The other treatment - if pain is severe - Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)
What type of treatment is best for you as per your symptoms - only your Dr can decide
Best wishes
