Burnt Feeling In Skin With Stabbing Pain In Heart After Using Daytrana Patches For ADHD. Should The Medicine Be Continued?
My son is 7-years old and started the ADHD medication Daytrana today. We were at a party, and I forgot to take the patch off at the nine-hour mark. He had it on around two more hours than he should have.
He came to me and told me that "his patch was burning his skin" so we headed home. As we were getting into the car he told me that his "heart hurt." I asked him if that had ever happened before and he said no. He also said it was a stabbing pain, not a burning pain. He did not complain of dizziness, no fainting or shortness of breath. When we got home we took the patch off and he was fine the rest of the evening.
I have a history of hormone-induced palpitations and my husband is on metroprlol for a heart-rhythm issue. We saw pediatric cardiologist before he began taking any stimulant medication and he was fine. I would like to know what we should do...try Daytrana again, or discontinue the medication and have him evaluated again by his cardiologist.
