C5/C6 Quadraplegic, Prescribed Pregabalin For Severe Nerve Pain. Is Life Expectancy Shortened ?

Hi my partner is a C5/C6 Quadriplegic. Since discharge from hospital in September 2006 he has bee prescribed 300mg of pregabalin twice daily for severe nerve pain. l Since being told the long term side effects of this drug ultimately shortening his life expectancy by the hospital Registrar Geoffrey has ceased taking it. He feels like his nerves and muscles in his legs are knitting together and he is in constant pain. He would like to know if there is a natural alternative to Pregabalin. He is well aware that total relief from pain is unrealistic he would prefer a natural alternative. Can you help?

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

A few of the natural painkillers are mentioned below -

* Ginger (add to 1-2 teaspoons daily to diet for general muscle pain)
* Grapes (back pain – 1 heaping cup per day)
* Water (general injury pain, helps wash away the pain-triggering histamine – 8 x 8 ounce glasses per day)
* Tomato Juice (leg cramps – tomato juice is rich in potassium – 10oz daily)
* Devil’s Claw (harpagophytum) and Burdock (Arctium lappa) have known anti-inflammatory properties, as does Vitamin D3, turmeric. German chamomile (Matricaria recutita) and the Zanthoxylums (toothache tree and Hercules’ club) have anti-inflammatory as well as anti-spasmodic properties. Reducing spasms and inflammation are two good ways to prevent and reduce nerve pain naturally.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
