CT Scan Report Reveals Anatomic Alignment Of Cervical Spine, Heart Diffuse Facet Arthritic. What Does This Mean?

can you define the results of a ct of the cervical spine with coronal and sagittal reformat: contiguous thin axial images of the cervical spine were obtained without contrast. Findings: there is anatomic alignment of the cervical spine on sagittal view. No "spondylolisthesis" is identified. The bony canal is patent. On axial view, no fracture is noted. There heart diffuse facet arthritic, hypertrophic changes especially from c3-c6. There is tiny air bubble within the bony canal, just adjacent to the left c6-c7 degenerative facets seen: this is likely degenerative in nature. No soft tissue abnormalities noted. There is normal alignment of c1-c2, and the dens isw intact on coronal view.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

The very fact that you underwent a CT of cervical spine suggests that you have some symptoms related to cervical spine.

All the findings are suggestive of DEGENERATED CERVICAL SPINE simply called as cervical spondylosis which are age related changes.

The general guidelines for treatment of cervical spondylosis is as follows -

Rest: A soft cervical collar is advisable. It should not be used for more than a week or two as it may worsen the condition with prolonged usage.

Medicines: Analgesic are needed in the acute phase. Muscle relaxants are essential for relieving muscle spasms which generally follows acute pain.

Cervical traction: may enlarge the disc space, permitting the prolapse to subside. Intermittent cervical traction for not more than 30 minutes at a time. Weight upto 8kg can be added.

Physiotherapy: Once the acute phase of pain has subsided, Isometric strengthening exercises of the paravertebral muscles are started. Moist heat can be useful

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
