Can Activated Charcoal Be Taken With Hydroxychloroquine?

Is it okay to take activated charcoal with hydroxychloroquine? I usually take two capsules of the activated charcoal while taking 400 mg of hydroxychloroquine daily and also 2 mg of loperamide hydrochloride due to flatulance and loose stools from the hydroxychloroquine.

Short answer : No.

Activated charcoal is adsorbent. It can reduce availability of hydroxychloroquine and thereby it's efficacy.

Also tab loperamide shouldn't be taken as a remedy for flatulance or dehydration as it has some serious potential complications.

Consider intake of hydroxychloroquine half an hour earlier than that of activated charcoal.

(Please mention indication of drugs you take before asking questions.... That will help doctor for giving better advice.)

Take care.
