Can Alendronate Cause Jaw And Ear Pain?

Question about Alendronate 70mg, which I have recently been taking. Says side effects are jaw/ear pain, which should be reported to your doctor. I have been having jaw annoyance, which I have had for several years off and on, but now am curious if this recent annoyance could be caused by drug. I do see a dentist regularly.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Alendronate is a Bisphosphonate and jaw pain can be a side effect of it..
But it is commonly seen to cause jaw pain and a condition known as Osteonecrosis of the jaw if any dental infection is present or a dental treatment is done during the course of Alendronate intake..

As you have jaw pain problem since years and if it has started before the Alendronate intake then it can be related to jaw joint related disorders..

But still to be on a safer side you should consult an Physician and get evaluated and a clinical examination and x ray can be done to rule out the exact cause of the problem..

Once the diagnosis is confirmed a proper line of treatment can be advised..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
