Can Allopurinol Be Taken With Doxycycline And Cefuroxime?
What interaction dangers are to be considered with ,doxycycline 2x100mgs day and cefuroxime axetel 2x250mgs per day for Lyme disease .i now have to take allopurinol with the doxy and cefuroxime ,started at 100mgs day ,to be built up to 300mg day ,for chronic gout,! High uric acid,chronic inflammation. I have an idea allopurinol is dangerous to take with either doxycycline or cefuroxime .? Also-is allopurinol the same drug as probenocid or are they different.?

1. There is no reported significant drug interaction of Allopurinol with Doxycycline or cefuroxime. So you can take together if it has been prescribed to you.
2. Alopurinol & Probenecid are used in hyperuricemia (high uric acid)/Gout. But these are two drugs with totally different mechanism. Allopurinol is inhibiting the synthesis(production) whereas Probenecid increases uric acid excretion in the urine.
