Can Crestor Cause Severe Muscle Pain In The Lower Back?

I have been on Crestor 10 mg/day for about 6-7 years. For the past 3-4 years, I have suffered from severe muscle pain and spasm in my low back that has not responded to core strengthening and physio for 2 years. When I started it I had severe muscle cramps in my feet but they for the most part went away. Is it possible my muscle pain in back could be caused by the Crestor? I am active but having difficulties maintaining any activity. Your opinion would be appreciated. Thanks Donna

Hi,

I would most likely expect that muscular pain due to Crestor to be in the extremities but pain in the back is not an exception. The best way to know if Crestor is the cause of the muscular pains is to stop it for a while and see. You will need to stop it for a few weeks before you know for sure.

If after 1-2 months of stopping Crestor your back pain does not change then very likely it is not related to it and other causes of the back pain should be considered and Crestor restarted. Please discuss this with your doctor first before you do any changes in the treatment you are already taking.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
