Can DMSO Intake Help Avoid A Knee Replacement Surgery In A 76-year-old Suffering From Osteoarthritis?
I have osteoarthritis in some joints, especially primarily left and right knees in that order. I am 76 years old and am on BP, High Cholesterol, BPH, and have had by-pass surgery back in 1999. A friend recommended use of DMSO for joint pain, in order to postpone/avoid knee replacement surgery. Your advise?
Osteoarthritis is quite common. Unfortunately there is no curative treatment for it. But most of the patients do not need any surgery. Surgery is needed only in limited number of patients with advanced disease.
DMSO has been claimed for a lot of chronic pain conditions, However there is no scientific evidence that it is of any great help for osteoarthritis, however as said earlier most people do not need any surgery. A lot of patients only need pain killer occasionally. So talk to your doctor in this regards.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

DMSO has been claimed to work for many chronic pain conditions. Though OA is a painful condition but there is no evidence that DMSO may be of any great help for Osteoarthritis.
However, a lot of patients with osteoarthritis do not need any surgery. Mostly pain medication is needed.

DMSO intake is only helpful in the reduction of pain only on a temporary basis, for some time. DMSO intake on a chronic basis can have other side effects.
Considering the age to be 75, and the problem being osteoarthritis a degenerative disease, a knee replacement surgery would be very effective, then DMSO intake for longer durations.
