Can Dexedrine Taken During Pregnancy Cause Memory Difficulties In A Child?

In 1968, I briefly took dexadrine for weight loss (prescribed) by my doctor. After about a month on the meds, I found I was about one month pregnant and ceased the meds. My third son was born eight months later, a beautiful healthy baby. When he started school, I was told that he had Audio-visual Memory difficulties. He always had learning problems, but worked hard and finished two years of college. Could my medication during the first week of pregnancy have contributed to his difficulty? I have two older sons who have genius IQ. YYYY@YYYY

hello there,
Dexedrine does not cause documented losses in brain function. Some studies attribute it to premature deliveries but there is not enough evidence that it makes a child have difficulties in learning.
Intelligence is a polygenic trait. It has over 15 genes determining its inheritance. In the case of your elder 2 sons they may have got a favorable mix of genes. Your youngest son may have some different combination .
As a mother I understand that you feel guilty for any of your perceived reversals in your children but intelligence is not the sole indicator of a person's ability. Maybe your youngest son is meant for higher goals in a different sphere.
Hope this helps.
If you have any further queries I would be glad to help you.
