Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have to use Otrivin mostly during the season changes and winter to keep breathing normally. I am aware of Otrivin addiction which i have experienced earlier but no other nasal spray (saline sprays) work for me and I am taking Otrivin one spray each nostril before bed. As expected, after few days, without any reason my nostrils remains blocked through out the day and became a pain for me to work. I remember, years back Dr. prescribed me Duonase for some reason which helped. Should I try Duonase, and how do I get rid of Otrivin addiction, and get a sound sleep keeping my nostrils open during the night without Otrivin? Thanks, Sandip Ray
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain there is a possibility that the blocked nostrils are due to allergic reaction or can also be due to Sinusitis.. I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Nasal Endoscopy and MRI of sinuses can be diagnostic.. As far as Duonase nasal spray is concerned, it is a combination of anti allergics and steroid and can be used to relieve congestion caused by allergy and inflammation.. So I would suggest you to use Flonase after the diagnosis is confirmed as it is not a decongestant..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
