Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Sudden onset involuntary movements of hands could occur due to some seizure discharge from brain and this needs evaluation. The tremors could be essential tremors also. But if these are occurring in episodes then most likely these tremors are due to seizures or anxiety. As your doctor has prescribed sodium valproate to you so most likely these tremors are due to seizures. Sodium valproate is a mood stabiliser drug and the drug is a broad spectrum mood stabiliser drug. The drug can control the seizures effectively. Phenytoin is also an anti seizure drug and the drug can help in your case but the drug is relatively less safer in terms of side effects. Though the drug is also effective in seizures. So in my opinion you should take the sodium valproate as per your prescription and don't be worried. I hope this helps you.

Thanks, Take care
