Can Flagyl Cause Sharp Pain In Lower Stomach After Urination?

Hi, I was diagnosed with BV and they prescribed me with Flagyl. I ve taken it twice a day for about maybe 3 or 4 days. Everything was fine and then I noticed the other night that I had this pain in my lower stomach when I was finishing peeing, and sometimes randomly throughout the day. It s like a cramp/sharp pain. So I researched and saw the side effects of Flagyl could be painful urination. But I m not sure if this is a cause of the medicine, I wanted to say it was just because I hadn t been drinking much water and only sodas. Do you think this could be the reason instead?

Thank you for your question. Side effects of Metronidazole (Flagyl) and mainly gastrointestinal discomfort which are nausea, vomiting, abdominal pains and cramps and diarrhoea, also you might have other side effects like cystitis which is an inflammation of the bladder. This might be manifested as pains in the lower abdominal area and pains on urination. I would say if the pains started a few days after the treatment then, it must be the side effect of the drug and will go away soon after the treatment but if you had it at the beginning then there should be some other condition. Good luck and take care
