Can HIV Be Transmitted From Mother To Child During Breastfeeding?
Hi, I have a five months old baby boy, I m HIV positive, I was breastfeeding him for five months now I ve stopped because I m going back to work, I give him formula milk but sometimes I get tempted to breastfeed him again, is he at risk for HIV? Please help
HIV can be transmitted from mother to baby during pregnancy or at the time of delivery. Also breast milk is carrier of HIV and it is advised to HIV positive mothers to exclusively formula feed the infant. So I am afraid....yes, your baby is at risk. You may also confirm by running the test PCR on the baby.
I hope this answers your query. Please feel free to contact HCM again if you have any concerns. Wishing you good health.
