Can HIV Be Transmitted Through An Old Cut On The Skin?

I Hi doctor..am a nursing student..I was busy with a patient who had an iv line,so I had a razor small cut which was not bleeding I believe it was more than a day cut,so the iv line was leaking saline mixed with blood and it came into contact with my finger which ha d a non bleeding cut...am worried .was I at the risk of being infected?I did not check if the patient is HIV + or -

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The chances of transmission is unlikely. Check whether the patient is retro positive or not. If the result comes as positive you have to start on post exposure prophylaxis. It is always better not to take risk.
