Can I Get Promethazine Syrup Used For The Pneumonia?

Hi Dr.XXXXXX my name is Amy and i have had pneumonia and the past and was treated with promethazine w/codeine syrup. I think I have come back down with it again but now I don't have insurance or extra money to see doctor is there any way I can get help getting the syrup I need

Hi Amy,

Promethazine and codeine containing cough syrups are not available over the counter without prescriptions as both have a potential of being abused. Moreover, if you are indeed suffering from pneumonia, you are also likely to need medications other than cough syrup, like antibiotics. So it will be better to see a doctor rather than self-medicating.
