Can I Safely Inject Soframycin Into My Urethra To Relieve Catheter-related Dysuria, Or Is There A Better Alternative To Xylocaine Jelly?

Hello, i am doing self intermittent clean catherisation since last 26 years as i have Neurogenic bladder

My query is can i inject soframycin into my urethra through a sterile syringe .

I develop dysuria through catheter friction with urethra.

Kindly suggest some thing to be injected into my urethra to ease my discomfort apart from Xylocaine 2% jelly.

Regards

Hi,

Both of these can be used to relieve the discomfort of catheterization. However, both have different role in this. While, due to lubrication, both are able to prevent friction related discomfort, but Xylocaine jelly acts by its action on nerve endings and making the area numb, thus reducing pain and irritational sensations, where as Soframycin may prevent infection due to its anti- bacterial role. Preference of one or the other may depend on individual preference.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
