Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have experienced severe pain in my right hand, wrist, . It came on at night and continued all day ; I had a friend here at assisted living give me Aleve since I only have Tylenol and it did not help. I am in my 90's. Can I stay on Aleve for a while ? It seems to help. I trust there is no charge for this question.
Alive contains naproxen which is belongs to group of pain killer called NSAIDS. Generally these drugs are safe if used for short term and effective however may cause some stomach problem. So you can use it if you have no stomach problems or peptic ulcer disease. Use it after meals. and if it hurts your stomach , then you should use an anta acid with it . For short time , it wont make a big problem. However make sure ,this is only for the pain relief and not a treatment of your primary problem whatever is that .So if the pain does not settle in few days please talk to your doctor for proper evaluation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
