Can I Take Nordette If I Have Taken Emergency Contraceptives Earlier?

21 years old, 5'4", 140 lbs.
I would like to start taking birth control pills regularly but it says on my pill's (Nordette) label "No preceding hormonal contraceptive use (in the past month)" I have already used it as emergency contraception a couple times in the past month. I've already gotten my period now and my question is if I can start taking the pills regularly already or do I have to wait another month?

Hi,

According to literature, if you want to start regular contraceptive pills after emergency contraception

-If you have used emergency contraceptive pill containing Levonorgestrel, you can start hormonal pills immediately.
-If you have used emergency contraceptive pill containing Ulipristal acetate you can use regular contraceptive pills 6th day after taking Ulipristal.

Reference: https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/emergency-contraception. So, according to this you can start regular hormonal pills now.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri SR
