Can I Take Clarithromycin Along With Simvastatin?

Should clarithromycin and simvastatin be prescribed together? My father has been taking simvastatin as part of the treatment of high cholesterol. Clarithromycin was prescribed after an angiogram was completed. The dye for the angiogram needs to be filtered out. My dad s ankles are retaining fluid due to heart failure, but in order to take the toxic dye out of his sytem, clarithromycin was prescribed for 10 days and then nothing more. For the 10 days, is this combination okay?

simvastatin will increase the level or effect of clarithromycin by altering drug metabolism. It may cause muscle ache, muscle pain, weakness, and dehydration. So just inform your doctor if you have any of the side effects. It can be taken with prescription only.
