Can I Take One Amoxicillin Per Day For Viral Infection That Has Caused Sore Throat?

Hi Doctor, I have a viral infection that has caused extreme soar throat and fever ranging from 100 to 102, been suffering for last 4 days. I went to a local physician and he prescribed me with Amoxicilin 875mg to take twice a day, it seems like a very large dosage so I decided to take one a day, is that the right thing to do?
