Can I Take Thyronorm Between Breakfast And Dinner?

Can i take Thyronorm between breakfast and dinner if i forget to take it in the morning? And i wanted to get my thyroid tests done today but did not take the medicine. Will it affect the results? Should i take the medicine now and gove the blood sample after an hopur? Please suggest

Hi,

Welcome to HCM. I have gone through the question and understand your concerns.

1. Regarding thyroid tablets

Thyroid hormone replacement has to be taken in empty stomach - that is 4 hours after a food and 1 hour before next food. If you miss a tablet, if you can take it empty stomach later do so. Of not take two tablets the next day morning empty stomach. Since the half life of tablet is long, there won't be any change in effect / side effect.

2. Regarding blood tests.

Thyroid function tests has to be done ideally before tablets or 4 hour after thyroid tablets if you are looking at T3 and T4. There won't be any changes in TSH whether you take tablets or not on the same day. Most importantly tell the doctor how you have done the test, so that he can interpret the report correctly.
